One of the Trust’s biggest endeavors is the Turner Katy Trail Shelter in Tebbetts, MO. This charming two-story building, generously gifted by the Turner family, has been upgraded with restrooms, showers, multiple bunk beds, dressers, heating, air conditioning, and running water. In addition, it offers a range of amenities designed to accommodate non-profit youth groups seeking an affordable lodging option while exploring the Katy Trail. Thousands have experienced the unique comfort of this exceptional home away from home located along the Katy Trail.
The Trust's engagement with the Katy Trail State Park dates back to the very inception of the trail—its acquisition and construction. Primarily funded by Ted Jones, the Trust secured the right-of-way, engaged in numerous battles to protect the Trail, and provided the necessary funding for its construction with the ultimate aim of transferring it to the Department of Natural Resources as the state’s longest state park.
Additionally, the Trust has supported a variety of supplementary Trail projects, including several kiosks and parking areas, and has played a key role in significant initiatives such as the bike lane on the Jefferson City bridge, which connects the State Capitol area in Jefferson City, Missouri, to the Katy Trail State Park.
The shelter is situated near the community of Tebbetts, Missouri. For the specific location of the shelter, please refer to a map or guide, or feel free to
